Below are stories that have been sent to me to remember the sometimes great/sometimes challenging times we had aboard USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608). I do not authenticate the stories. I just believe they are worth passing along.

To SSBN/SSN 608 Crewmembers:

I have to put my two cents in!! I spent 4 1/2 years (over a year submerged) on the Ethan Allen. This was the first boat to be homeported at the Trident Submarine Base, Bangor, WA. I guess, we were the practice boat to gear up the base for the real deal, the Trident sub.

The 608 made 57 deterrent patrols, covering potential aggressive targets for approximately twenty years. I am proud to say that I made the last patrol (patrol 57), and was a member of the decommissioning crew in March of '83. After replacing the birds with concrete, we still kept the boat at sea, A LOT!! Granted, one of our missions was to furnish the Airdales with some substantial training in tracking an actual submarine, and we endured countless hours of active "pings" from sono buoys, but, I can tell you, the experience was not only beneficial to my career, but my own personnel memory bank.

To all my shipmates that I served with, I salute you, and thank you, for your service. It was really fun!!
