Below are stories that have been sent to me to remember the sometimes great/sometimes challenging times we had aboard USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608).  I do not authenticate the stories.
I just believe they are worth passing along.

Please forward all stories to ssbn608@ssbn608.org

One day while I was in charge of the seaman gang!

Captain Ube - Not

by
Herb Richardson

This graphic reminded me of a refit that I was in charge of the seaman gang.  One of my seaman found a ball cap with scrambled eggs and the letters UBE.  He wore the hat when doing dirty work.

One afternoon while working on missile hatch timing, I heard over the sound powered phone, "Captain Ube Away!"

I asked the topside phone talker to repeat his last.  And he said that Captain UBE was underway.

I ran topside to see my seaman on a punt (that he was using to paint the side of the ship) floating out to sea.  It was so funny , because all he had was a roller on the end of a pole to try to paddle back to the ship.

We had to call a tug boat to save him.
